The Cervelo P-Series Ultegra 8170 Di2 Disc TT/Triathlon Bike builds on the speed and success of the P3 and P5, offering a rapid and highly efficient machine at a more palatable price.
The bike has been designed to cheat the wind, not just under test conditions but in the real world too, hence the integrated hydration and storage solutions which mean that even when fully laden for an Ironman the aerodynamic benefits are very real. Tried and tested features such as the seat tube cut out for the rear wheel and the optimised tube shapes are all present and correct, but the frame now offers 18% more stiffness at the bottom bracket and a 30% torsional stiffness increase for better performance on the road.
Shimano’s 12-speed Ultegra Di2 groupset is now semi-wireless for much easier set up around an aero bar cockpit, and offers faster, more accurate shifting than ever whilst the extra sprocket means that finding the most effective cadence is also easier. Native Bluetooth connectivity provides more information and integration with bike computers.
Fast Reserve 50 carbon wheels are a good all-round choice that will work in most conditions and are impressively light for their depth, and running on DT Swiss 370 hubs means reliability, efficiency and ease of maintenance. Elsewhere, Cervelo has limited the use of proprietary components, so that travelling with the P-Series is simpler as is replacing parts if or when necessary, with the Zipp Vuka Bull Carbon handlebar being a particular highlight.
